”Esta es su Casa”. This Mexican expression means welcome to our home.
Welcome to Casa del Capitan Carranza and enjoy the many charms of this authentically Mexican villa. It’s warm, cozy ambiance is created by the traditional design and use of beautiful Mexican woods, tiles and furnishings. The many terraces provide the perfect setting for viewing spectacular Caribbean sunsets or relaxing while watching the boating in the bay or the Dolphins frolicking at the Dolphin Discovery near by.
For the guests that prefer swimming in natural, untreated water there is a salt water swimming pool perched beside the sea. Or you can swim and snorkel in the warm waters of Mujeres Bay off the small dock. An outdoor gazebo with palapa roof is the perfect spot for dining al fresco. Use the outdoor grill for preparing the ‘catch of the day’.
The foyer has a half bath off of it and leads to the great room with dining on one side and a sala or sitting area with entertainment center on the other. A well equipped kitchen is also off this large, comfortable room. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor one with 2 twin beds, and a sofa couch and one with a queen bed, each has a full bathroom and a separate vanity area.
A wooden spiral staircase leads to the second floor, high story bedroom with a queen bed and full bathroom. There are 2 terraces off the bedroom - one overlooking the garden and the other overlooking the stunning turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
Since 1965 the Carranza Family has vacationed on Isla Mujeres. For several years they rented a house on Playa Norte (now the restaurant Chi Chis). It was Capitan Carranzas dream to live on this island when he retired from Mexicana Airlines. As a pilot, whenever had a flight assigned to this area, he flew over the Island as low as possible and the locals knew that Capitan Caranza was flying the plane.
In 1987 La Casa del Capitan was built and ever since our family has gathered for reunions here. The oldest son inaugurated his 35 ft boat “La Crisis” on the lagoon across of the house. The oldest daughter was engaged the same day and that is why there is a commemorative plaque named “punta compromiso” on the ocean yard.
During starlight nights, friends and family gather on the terraces to listen to the many anecdotes of Capitan Carranzas adventures.
We wish you enjoy this family house as much as we do.
